Millions of Cats, Trillions of Cats

When I was a kid I had a book called Millions of Cats that was about a little old man and a little old women who were looking for a cat and found millions instead who ended up duking it out to see who would go home with them.  In the end only one little kitten was left and he was the lucky one to go home with the man and woman.  Seeing all of the kitties come parading through the shelter reminded me of that book, which I still own and read to my daughter now.

Here are a few more cats from the shelter.  Please visit them at the Humane Society for West Michigan.  They may not get a new home in time for Christmas but hopefully will for the New Year!

Cadence is about 8 years old and is a beautiful little black and brown female tabby.  She is very friendly and looking for a home!

Gypsy is also about 8 and is a female black cat who is very sweet.  Don’t believe that old superstition about black cats either – I had one who lived to be almost 18 years old and he was a great cat and never brought me any bad luck!

Ava is a sweet black and white 12 year old female who is camping out at the Chowhound petstore right now hoping to find some love!  The white fur makes an interesting diamond pattern on her face.

Cesar is an 8 year old male who was quite interested in my lighting setup. He is a black and brown tabby.

Abby is a cautious but very sweet kitty who has been at HSWM at least since I started taking photos there a couple of weeks ago.  I hope she finds a home soon, and so does she!  Abby is around 12 years old.

Clause was hoping to get a new home in time to meet her namesake when he drops presents off in a couple days, but will patiently wait for her family instead!  She is only about a year old and is a striking black cat.

Please don’t forget to check out HSWM or your local shelter if you are not in the West Michigan area if you are looking for a new furry friend!

Cats 12-20

There’s nothing quite like a warm, purring ball of fur to make the long winter days in Michigan a little less dreary.  If you are looking for a warm fuzzy companion please pay a visit to the Humane Society of West Michigan where there are lots of cats and dogs just waiting for you!

Tansy2 Tansy3

Tansy is a friendly little girl.  She is a two year old brown tabby with beautiful green eyes.

This is Smokey.  She is an eight year old Russian Blue Mix.  Russian Blues tend to be intelligent, curious and friendly, all of which Smokey is.  Every time I have gone to photograph the cats she always comes trotting up to me to say her hellos.

Sadie is another eight year old gal with emerald eyes and a long gorgeous coat.  She didn’t feel like coming out to get her glamour shots done today.

Pretty Girl

Pretty Girl definitely lives up to her name with her stunning coat colors and eyes.  She is about two years old.

Meet Milo!  He’s an eight year old gray and white kitty with the cutest little white muzzle.

Jessie is a ten year old white cat with patches of orange and black.  She is a big girl and would love to keep your lap warm!

Please visit HSWM if you are looking for a pet and look for my blog with more cats in a day or two.

Here are some of the latest cats in residence right now at the Humane Society of West Michigan.  If you are looking for a furry friend please visit them, there are lots of cats and dogs there, waiting for their forever home!

Shadow is a beautiful longhaired gal who is about 2 1/2 years old.  Her little ear tufts are so cute!

Leith is super friendly and her dark little nose stands out against her lighter coat, which is a gorgeous grey mottled with tan.  She is just over 2 years old.

Mr. Coffee (left) and Prince (right) are two adorable tabbies who were a little overwhelmed by all the activity at the shelter tonight and had found some hidey-holes under the kitty furniture.  They are both about 1 1/2 years old.

Skittles has an interesting color, being mostly black with little sprinkles of orange and white spots on her chest.  She is 6 years old and looking forward to spending time with her new family!

Screech Owl

Screech Owl really does have an owlish little face.  She is still a bit frightened of her new surroundings but is a gorgeous 4 year old girl when she’s not owl-scowling.

Princess is a very pretty grey and orange girlie who was quite content to stay up on her perch and get her photo taken.  She is about two years young.

Stay tuned later this week for more cats who are hoping you will come and visit them at the Humane Society of West Michigan!

Shelter Kitties!

I’ve been wanting to volunteer at a local animal shelter for quite a while now and finally took action by contacting the Humane Society of West Michigan to see if they were in need of any photography.  I’m so glad there is something I can do to hopefully help some of these cats and dogs get a new and much deserved home!  I have a feeling at least one of them will ultimately end up at my home 🙂  HSWM is an amazing place to find a furry buddy so if you’re thinking of adopting a new cat or dog please check them out!  Here are the kitties from my session yesterday afternoon.

Tilly is a three year old gray and tan tabby girl who was very content to be petted and photographed.  She has a sweet little petite face and gorgeous yellow-green eyes.

Jeri is one of Tilly’s roommates and is another tabby but a darker brown and black.  She is also around three years old and has the most striking green eyes!

Mary Ellen

Mary Ellen is a two year old tortie who was more interested in eating than in looking at me and or my camera, but once she was full she finally came over to say hi and was very friendly.  From this photo it is hard to see her tortie colors but they are definitely more distinctive on her back.

Archer is one of Mary Ellen’s roommates and is a tall, lanky and handsome one and a half year old boy with white socks.  He was very interested in the kitties next door and was entertaining me by pawing at the glass to their room in between coming over to check me out and get some lovin’.

Cindi Lou Who(2)

This is Cindi Lou Who, who is no more than two (actually ten months).  She wants a new home for Christmas before the Grinch comes to take away her Christmas tree and roast beast!  She is a beautiful little tortoiseshell girl and is sharing her room with another gorgeous tortie named Noel Bell (see photo below).

Noel Bell-2

Noel Bell is even younger than Cindi Lou Who, about eight months, and is a very inquisitive little girl.  While I was trying to get shots of the other cats she actually walked from her perch on the shelves right up onto my back.

Martha May Who(2)Betty Lou Who

Martha May Who (top) and Betty Lou Who (bottom) are two more kitties from Whoville.  They are both about one year old and mostly black except for a little white patch of fur on thier chests.  They are waiting for Santy Claus to pay them a visit!

Meet Molly!  She is a sweet two year old with a sharp tuxedo and stand-out whiskers.  In the play room she was a little shy at first but quickly warmed up to some petting once she was accustomed to her new surroundings.

Galavant is one big, handsome boy!  He is about four years old and LOVES his catnip.  He is also a big sweetie and was standing up on his back legs to get some extra attention in the play room.

This is Grinchie.  Despite his name this little 5 month old kitten is super sweet and looked like he was sitting under the mistletoe waiting for a big kiss!

Last, but not least, is Buttercup.  This little kitten is not quite sure what to think of her home here at the shelter just yet, but seems very sweet and has a beautifully colored coat.

Stay tuned later this week for some pup pics!

Please feel free to share this blog – the more eyes, the quicker these little guys and gals will find themselves in a new forever home!

Lola ~ Pet Portraits

I have always had a great love for and connection with animals.  When I was a kid I always thought I wanted to be a vet, and there has not been a time in my life when I didn’t have at least one pet.  Recently we lost our Labrador Retriever, Tevya, in a hit-and-run car accident right in front of our house.  It was a very sad day for me and I regret that I never did a real session with him before his untimely death, so I decided to do a session with our other dog, Lola.  In honor of Tevya I have also reached out to our local humane society to volunteer my photography services for their animals to try and help them get adopted, so if you live near Grand Rapids and are looking for a pet, you might soon see some of my work on the West Michigan Humane Society website.
